Es ist wieder Fußball-WM. Immer schön aufpassen, was die im Bundestag so durchwinken, wenn gerade der Fokus woanders liegt.
I've recently switched away from #DuckDuckGo and migrated to:
It's a meta-search engine that mixes your queries with other queries and sends them to a handful of other search engines.
You get fast results from highly specific search engines (Google, Erowid, Archive.is, Soundcloud, YouTube, all the good ones) without actually sending them your real query.
I love it.

"The LocationSmart scandal is bigger than Cambridge Analytica. Here’s why no one is talking about it.
Wireless carriers are sharing your real-time location with shady third parties—and a bug lets anyone use that data to track you."
Found through @yaelwrites text on the subject https://slate.com/technology/2018/05/locationsmart-security-it-is-totally-legal-for-cellphone-companies-to-sell-location-data-to-third-parties.html
I just found out that by default, #LinkedIn sells user data to anyone without anonymizing it, regardless of visibility settings. #Linkedin is owned by #Microsoft.
You can opt out in the privacy settings, but this is something that should be allowed only after opt-in. #GDPR

Is there a big thread of DIY resources for newbies anywhere in the fediverse already? Making clothes, art, doing repairs, repurposing old stuff, etc. I want to start putting my own knowledge into an open format like on Wikibooks or something.
Here are the slides of my talk (German, but with lots of English references) on discrimination against #bisexual and #pansexual people in combination with #misogyny: http://theresa.someserver.de/bi-misogynie.pdf (PDF, 2 MB)

🚨 IT Security alert 🚨
Tomorrow, researchers will publish a PGP related vulnerability. Both the researchers and the EFF recommend that we disable PGP in our mail clients, especially automatic decryption, and don't trust PGP email security until the paper has been released and the issues are better understood, as a conservative stopgap measure.
The EFF source and guides on how to disable PGP in three popular clients: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2018/05/attention-pgp-users-new-vulnerabilities-require-you-take-action-now #gpg #pgp #security #encryption
Do you use PGP in Thunderbird with Enigmail?
Due to security vulnerabilities in Thunderbird with PGP (and GPG), you should follow these instructions to disable the Enigmail add-on. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2018/05/disabling-pgp-thunderbird-enigmail
With reference to extending the lifecycle of old hardware, there are a few things that come to mind:
1 - Gopher
2 - SSH/VNC/RDP
3 - Neocities and other back-to-basics online projects.
Here's a thing I wrote about Gopher if you don't know about gopher: http://ajroach42.com/gopher-remembering-the-web-that-wasn-t/
Okay, since this is a recurring question (which I should have expected), I've updated sunbeam.city's about page with a link to a short description of what #solarpunk actually is, taking on board suggestions from the Fediverse:
